Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
The amount of sand depends on the size and desired fill height. Example values: A sandbox measuring 120 × 120 cm with a 20 cm fill height requires approx. 200–250 kg of play sand.
A model measuring 140 × 140 cm with a 25 cm fill height needs around 300–400 kg.
We recommend using washed, fine-grain play sand that is specifically suitable for children.
A roof protects children from sun and light rain while playing. A cover prevents animals, leaves, or dirt from getting into the sand.
Many of our models combine both—for optimal protection and play comfort.
Children can start playing in sand with supervision from around 12 months. Our sandboxes are suitable for children aged 1 to about 7 years—depending on the model and size.
Most of our sandboxes are made from FSC-certified wood that has been treated for weather resistance. The surfaces are smooth, splinter-free, and coated with child-safe glaze. For long-lasting durability, we recommend annual maintenance with wood preservative.
Assembly takes approximately 30 to 60 minutes depending on the model. All sandboxes come with detailed instructions and the required screw set. For models with a roof, we recommend assembling with two people.
Yes, many of our models are suitable for smaller areas such as balconies or terraces. Make sure to use a stable, waterproof base and consider a cover to protect against rain.
A mud tray is an integrated container, usually made of plastic, where children can mix water and sand. It encourages creative play and prevents the entire sandbox from becoming soaked. The tray is easy to clean and included in many of our models.
No, the roof of Meppi sandboxes does not include UV protection. It reliably shields against light rain and provides pleasant shade, but does not offer specific protection from UV rays.
Textile elements such as seat cushions, sun canopies, or sails are sensitive to moisture, frost, and strong winds.
To keep them beautiful and functional for a long time, please follow these tips:
- Store dry and frost-free: Ideally, keep textile parts in a protected indoor space—e.g., basement, attic, or garage. Moisture can cause mold, and frost can damage the material.
- Clean before storing: Remove dirt, leaves, and moisture thoroughly. Dirty textiles may darken or develop unpleasant odors over winter.
- Store in a ventilated way: Do not store textiles in airtight containers. Use breathable bags or boxes to prevent mildew and musty smells.
- Take down during storms: Textile roofs or covers should be removed and safely stored during storm warnings. Strong gusts can damage or blow them away.
- Mind UV exposure: Even in winter, UV rays can fade colors. A shaded storage location significantly extends the lifespan.
- Avoid extreme temperature changes: Storage areas should be kept at a stable temperature—extreme heat or cold can make materials brittle.
